Warwick Capper - I Only Take What's Mine (1985)
Hey. I just stumbled across this about an hour ago. In my quick research Warwick Capper was a famous Australian rules football player in the 80's. He put out this charming power poppy beauty in 85. And that chanting chorus alternating with the strained passion of his vocals is pure glory.
And BONUS - We get our first video if you like looking at things.
This gives me some kind of instant nostalgia, like I grew up playing it daily on a boombox with a mixtape that some random kid gave me at recess while I was bouncing a ball even though in reality it's all new to me. Pure awesomeness.
Ol' Warwick here is channeling his inner Ric Ocasek, no doubt about it. Maybe some David Byrne in there as well. Is Mr. Capper their mysterious lovechild we never asked for, but truly deserve? And regarding the video: chicks that tease their bangs to the sky are the peak of hotness. We used to be a proper society, Bill.
