Girl - My Number (1980) Today we have a band of dudes from the UK that called themselves Girl. Guitarist Phil Collen joined Def Leppard in 1982. Vocalist Phil Lewis became vocalist of L.A. Guns in 1987. I love the palm muted guitar with that amazing tone of the lead. It kinda drones along reminiscent of early Cars tunes like "Moving In Stereo" and I'm all about that vibe. And those shouted backup vocals give a nice accent to the track, like randomly get smacked upside the head. Plus there's a video... It's right here. Just hit the button.

Tarantula Ghoul & Her Gravediggers - Graveyard Rock (1959) Here's a real blast from the past.  Suzanne Waldron (aka Tarantula Ghoul) was "the hostess with the mostest" on a local late night TV show in Portland, Oregon called House Of Horror in the late 1950s. Similar to Vampira before her and Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark after. Unfortunately it seems there is no known existing footage of the actual show but we have some pictures and this awesome 45. Right from the jump we get her spooky and somewhat shocking introduction. Then we just get a rockin' good time. And keep in mind the release date - this is three years before Bobby "Boris" Pickett was doing the Monster Mash.  "The party's over boys... So close those coffin lids..."

Vom - Too Animalistic (1978) It's a beautiful day and a beautiful time for Vom. Off of "Live From Surf City", one of the greatest of the great EPs from the Epic Era Of Punk. On the mic here we have Richard Meltzer, songwriter and rock critic - some say he invented long form rock criticism. He also wrote banger tunes such as "Harvester Of Eyes" and "Burnin' For You" for Blue Oyster Cult. And we got Gregg Turner and Metal Mike Saunders, who went on to form The Angry Samoans. As far as the song itself, it rules. And this monologue is stuck in my head forever... Bob and Coozy, ya know, they have a brand new car. It's blue, and like uh they're gonna go cruisin' today. Coozy's drivin', starts the car and turns it over, ya know, but it makes too much noise. Bobby monitors and says ya know, noise is uncool. So like uh she tries again but it makes even more noise. He says stop it, ya know, that's too animalistic. So like maybe somet...

Zolar X - Space Age Love (1982) In honor of May The Fourth, I watched part of the original Star Wars flick. It's iconic. It's great. I love it. Empire is my favorite but the original three all are classics. I had the action figures as a kid with my own movies in head. I don't care to speak on the films and whatnot that came after that. If you like them, fine. I've already posted Meco's mesmerizing Empire Strikes Back Medley from 1980 and I'll just put the link right here if you want some funky Star Wars. https://billsblogsongoftheday.blogspot.com/2026/03/meco-empire-strikes-back-medley-1980.html   But as per usual we are going with something different. LA alien glam punk superstars - Zolar X. They dressed in silver costumes and apparently spoke an alien language they made up even when they were off stage but luckily they decided to sing this song in the English language because that's the main one I know. It's hard to pinpoint the release date on this. T...

The Central High School Cafeteria Band - First Rhapsody For Knives, Forks And Spoons (1963) Yesterday I had a great time seeing old friends and making some new ones at a birthday party festival of sorts with all kindsa great bands and cool people. Among those many bands I got to see Jonee Earthquake Band again and they're still awesome. I highly recommend. But, as you know, today's another day and I'm taking a swooping pivot to some seriously unserious wacky territory with whatever exactly we got going on here. I did a little research and found this was released in 1963. And that's about it. The rest is right there in the band name and the song title. Apparently there is a part 2 on the flipside but I haven't come across it yet. I will use my imagination and assume it's just as good. Ok. Time to raid the silverware drawer, hit play and play along.

Joe Jackson - Got The Time (1979) It's fast, frenetic, reflective of the hectic analog lifestyle of a star British new waver in the late 70s. There's no time to spare. How the heck am I supposed to write this damn letter when people keep calling my damn landline? Also covered by Anthrax on 1990's "Persistence Of Time". Alright gotta go... Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin' in my head Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin' in my head Time - got the time tick-tick-tickin' in my head Tickin' in my head, tickin' in my head, tickin' in my head

Round Robin - I'm The Wolf Man (1965) [ often spelled   "Wolfman " ]   Hey everybody. It's May. First off, it's my wonderful stepma's birthday. Her favorite song is Sympathy For The Devil by The Stones. It's an absolute classic track by one of my favorite bands of all time. I love it. We listened to it today. But I'm not posting it here because I assume you already know it, right? I sure hope so. It's also a full moon tonight so I think it's a good day to post a song about a guy who isn't simply a werewolf, he's The Wolf Man, baby. And it's really one of the wildest rock n rollers of the mid 60s. I love the way this starts out with a scorching guitar riff and growling and shrieking or whatever exactly is happening to throw us into this madness. Interestingly, Round Robin was often compared to Chubby Checker (" The Twist "), partially because of physical appearance, but also musically, so this track is definitely an excur...
